Leapfrog Explorer Smart Globe

Leapfrog is synonymous with toys that help kids to learn too, and the Leapfrog Explorer Smart Globe doesn't disappoint.

It is an interactive globe packed with loads of useful information, as well as quizzes and games. Pick up the stylus and touch a country - Leapfrog Explorer will tell you all the stats like the population, capital city and even give you an example of the local music.

Want to know the distance and flying times between two countries? Just click and listen. In Eureka mode, the globe calls out countries and you have to find them on the world and touch them with the stylus. This is a great toy for learning about Earth.

Asus Eee PC

The Asus Eee PC is a really cool little computer. Normally we stay away from computers on this site as they are expensive pieces of kit and not really classed as toys. But the Asus Eee PC is an adorable "ultra portable" PC which starts at just $299.

It has built in Wifi and should primarily be thought of a machine for accessing the web. It doesn't have abig hard drive - opting instead for cheap, light flash memory. It comes with a version of Linux (although machines with Windows XP are now available), so you should be safe from viruses and spyware, and it has open source office software for documents and spreadsheets.

Whether you want a "first computer" for the kids which is cheap enough not to worry too much about it, or if you want a lightweight computer for yourself when travelling, the Asus Eee PC is definitely recommended by us. Check out the full range at Amazon.com
